Mis Hijos Y Yo

IRIS Educational Media is developing a media-based parenting class that will make high-quality parenting education easily accessible to Spanish-speaking families experiencing separation and divorce.  The program will focus on parenting skills that protect children from the risks of maladjustment, antisocial behavior, delinquency, and substance abuse that can result from the stresses, conflicts, and compromised parenting that often occur during family separation. Mis Hijos y Yo will be available across a variety of digital platforms (e.g., smartphone, tablet, computer) in order to facilitate individual or group instruction as mandated by state and local family court systems.

Melissa Donovick, Ph.D., and Jessie Marquez of IRIS Educational Media in Eugene, Oregon are leading the project’s interdisciplinary team of bilingual researchers, stakeholders and media technology specialists.

Mis Hijos y Yo represents the first time evidence-based parenting education for divorcing parents will be culturally and linguistically tailored to a Spanish-speaking Latino audience and delivered using mobile devices and other digital means.

Mis Hijos y Yo is part of a research grant funded by the National Institutes of Health, grant #2R44MD008583-02A1
